Date
Santa Pod Raceway Presents Bug Jam 25. A quarter century of Air-cooled excellence
Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th July
After a quarter of a century of being Europe’s biggest, best and most popular VW show, Bug Jam 25 is back once again with a line-up of both on and off-track action that reflects the history and heritage of this iconic event. Once more, it’s time for the incredible VW-inspired, weekend long party, where over 33,000 show-goers can expect to have fun in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Now celebrating its quarter centenary , this remarkable show, now the biggest VW Beetle festival in Europe, looks set to pack even more entertainment, fun, action and racing into 3 hectic days than ever before. Often dubbed ‘Glastonbury On Wheels’, Bug Jam offers an eclectic mix of all things VW, wrapped in an intoxicating mix of music, comedy, nightlife and lifestyle. A true festival in every sense of the word, with a vibrant and fun atmosphere, bringing to life the very essence of VW culture. As ever, this year, all of the action is also being captured for a lifestyle documentary programme on Eurosport and Motors TV.
Naturally, Europe’s greatest, shiniest and fastest VWs will be taking centre stage – and, after it proved so popular last year they’ve laid on an improved, full off-road course! But even if that’s not your thing, there’s an incredibly diverse list of attractions to choose from, making Bug Jam a superb event for all sorts of enthusiasts.
As well as non-stop drag racing from the pros, there are numerous chances for you to have a go yourself in the many ‘Run What You Brung’ sessions held over the weekend. Running on the strip throughout the show will be Fireforce, Santa Pod’s own 280mph Jet Car, the insane Jet Beetle and of course, the 7-second quarter mile turning 2 seat dragster, for the very brave to ride in. Polishing buffs will also love the Autoglym ‘Show and Shine’ area, where Europe’s most beautifully finished creations compete for top honours.
Bring a full wallet, because not only will you find one of the biggest collections of VW traders in one place, but also the Autojumble is often known to throw up some real rarities. If you have been looking for that obscure part for months - you might just find it here.
Adrenaline junkies have plenty to keep them entertained. Not only will UKFMX be providing 3 days of gravity-defying action, but they’ll also be ably assisted by Podzilla, Santa Pod’s very own car-crushing Monster Truck, this year battling it out with the similarly able ‘Swamp Thing’. Headlining as ever, will be multiple Guinness World record holder Terry Grant, who will be displaying his own unique brand of car control – and possibly smashing yet another World record or two in the process..
Music fans will hit ‘overload’ thanks to a packed itinerary of live bands across four music arenas, including chart-toppers The Candle Thieves, D:ream and The Farm headlining on the Friday night, and Indie favourites, The Wonder Stuff doing an extensive set on the Saturday. Mix in live DJs and comedy tents to provide something for everyone - and you’ll begin to understand why the event has such a broad appeal. Comedy is always a big draw at Bug Jam and this year, with ‘Mock The Week’ and Radio 4 regular Milton Jones heading up the talent, expect significant hilarity throughout the entire weekend. Frustrated singers and performers are also welcome on the ‘Bug Jam’s Got Talent’ stage, where we can’t promise Simon Cowell, but you might just win a few fans for your trouble.
But that’s STILL not all! There’s free camping on-site all weekend and better still, the under 13s get in for absolutely nothing! There’s a huge funfair and festival traders on site for all to enjoy and to tug at the old heartstrings, The Battle Of Britain memorial flight with a WWII Dakota will be putting in an appearance on the Saturday.
With a capacity crowd expected, show goers are advised to book their tickets early, you DO NOT want to miss this one!

Deer Shed Festival - a truly family-friendly weekend
BALDERSBY PARK, TOPCLIFFE, NORTH YORKSHIRE
These days, many a festival lays claim to being family-friendly but when you get there the reality can often be a long schlep from the car to the campsite (and then to the main arena and then to the stages...), activities that cost a fortune, bugger all to do from breakfast until the music starts and an unpleasant atmosphere after-dark. Come to think of it, that can be the reality of a lot of festivals whether you have kids in tow or not.
But not at Deer Shed. After abandoning one too many festivals early because they weren't having the time they hoped for, organisers Kate and Oliver Jones decided if they couldn't find the perfect festival for them and their three children, they were going to have to put one on themselves and thus Deer Shed Festivalin North Yorkshire was born in 2010. The aim? A festival full of the unexpected but those of the delightful variety like discovering a new found passion for graffiti tagging or dancing with your six year old, not the unpleasant surprises like filthy toilets.
Starting with a blank piece of paper, Kate and Oliver built their dream festival from the ground up, focussing on all the things they've found can sour a festival experience. Enlisting like-minded friends, including one with over 20 years teaching and childcare experience to co-ordinate all the activities kids can get involved in, the Deer Shed Festival soon took shape – free activities, a spacious campsite, stuff to do from first thing in the morning, good old-fashioned hospitality, fantastic bands and value for money ticket price. Somewhere to get away from the day to day grind and remember how great it is to paint, play, make things, sing, dance and have fun with your loved ones whether they're six months or 60 years old. Somewhere to come away from feeling revitalised and refreshed, not wiped out and weary.
In addition to an awesome line-up of music, the Deer Shed Festival offers a programme that includes everything from cabaret and comedy to sports to arts and crafts:
Comedy & Cabaret
The Friday night cabaret show is curated this year by the Greentop Circus who will also be on hand over the weekend to teach circus skills. Comedy, which is all PG-rated, will be supplied by Chortle Award winners Pappy's, James Campbell, Jon Reed and Andrew Clover from BBC2's My Almost Famous Family.
Sports
The Deer Shed team are seriously considering attempting to break the world record for the most people simultaneously playing swingball this year. Failing that they'll have organised football and softball with qualified coaches and over a quarter of the campsite space will be given over to a field full of hula hoops, space hoppers, building barrels and that ridiculous amount of swingballs to keep everyone occupied when the main arena isn't open. They'll be recreating a mini-seaside too for those who enjoy some bucket and spade action.
Arts & Crafts
The arts endeavours in the arena will include a doodle wall, paintball art, graffiti workshops and ukulele lessons. Craft activities include making lots of different things out of lots of different stuff – guitars out of cardboard, mobiles out of CDs, masks out of of milk cartons, gardens out of plasticine, badges out of...well badges and models out of anything and everything you can lay your hands on.
And there's more...
For the times when festival goers simply want to sit back and relax instead of getting involved, there's cartoons and family films to watch, storytelling, an artist blacksmith in residence to whip up pieces of bespoke jewellery, a cocktail bar and high quality food to tickle all types of taste-buds.
It's not rocket science (though the festival has a Sky At Night theme in honour of headliners I Am Kloot so there may be some rocket happenings lined up), but the Deer Shed team have put some serious thought into what everyone wants from a festival. Take a look at the homepage of the website for some of the feedback from happy campers in 2010:
“the kids loved every second of it”
“ambience was the most chilled of any event I've been to for ages”
“so much stuff for the kids/big kids”
“family and purse friendly”
“the entertainment was first class”
Superb, great, amazing, fantastic, wonderful...the plaudits were high. Nominated for Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2010, Deer Shed struck a chord instantly with festival goers that don't want to pay a fortune for the privilege. Back by popular demand for its second year in 2011, with an increased capacity to cater for all those that missed out last year, the Deer Shed Festival is a true family-friendly weekend.

Drum Camp
In Tunisia, where more than 154,000 people have fled, the Red Cross has set up a transitional camp, which can shelter up to 10,000 people. It is providing food, health, water and sanitation assistance and distributing emergency relief items, including thousands of blankets.
We will be donating the profits from our T-shirt and merchandise sales to the ICRC, as well as running a raffle in which we will be asking artists to donate some CD's, and maybe seeing if one or two stall holders could also donate a raffle prize item. I hope you will join us in raising as much as possible over the weekend, so we can collectively, in our own small way, give something back to the cultures we get so much inspiration and pleasure from.
We always strive to deliver an eclectic mix of music and cultures to Drum Camp's line-up, and many of our workshop artists will be taking to the stage across four nights of concert performances.

This stage offers a performance opportunity for anyone attending over the weekend, and we know there is some amazing talent about so we hope you will sign up! Our usual DJ cafe sets will kick off each night after the main stage performances and expect some collaborations with our beatbox artists taking to the mics. Should be some full on dance sessions here. Open Fire drumming and dance jams, ambient chill out areas all make our nights very special whatever your tastes and energy levels

luxurious" Guardian
"Chilled day, party night time - a wonderful weekend" Independent
"Intimate and idyllic" Metro
"Excellent one-night shindig" Vice
"The vibe is cheery, chilled and you should rarely lose your

Festibelly is a one day/one night festival located just outside the idyllic
New Forest town of Lymington, Hampshire. Starting out in 2008 with 500
people getting together for an exclusive summer knees up, the festival has
grown a little in size but still prides itself on the intimate, carefree and
friendly vibe that it's always been known for. Taking pride in its
grassroots ethos, there's not a brand or sponsor in site at Festibelly and
that's the way things will stay. In the last four years Festibelly has
become an essential summer date for passionate, friendly and discerning
festival goers and performers alike.
2011 will see additions to performance and arts areas with packed line-ups
on the main stage, electronic arena, acoustic tent, arts and performance
tents, as well as collaborations from a number of Festi-friends old and new.

AREAS:
Massive In China
Like a rabbit in a raincoat in a box, Festibelly goers will be in for a
surprise when they draw aside the curtains of the brand new Massive In China
tent - a kaleidoscope of wrong cabaret and stand-up comedy, musically
delightful soft to weird acoustic melodies, a bit of boombastic over to the
light fantastic. Or get a bit vintage-crafty whilst watching circus
performance and getting involved in a wonky gameshow or magic-not-magic act.
The Nest
A new treetop stage nestled amongst the giant oaks of the Festi-forest. Fear
of Theydon will be curating a line-up that befits the mystical setting with
luscious sounds of cosmic, disco and Balearic goodness pulsing through the
trees.
Le Disco
Featuring everything from dubstep to disco, a full line-up of electronic
acts will feature throughout the day and night. Taking it into the early
hours Le Disco Silence will be catering for all the night owls.
Terrapin Station
An alternative to the main stage the Terrapin Station combines flavours of
acoustic, folk, gypsy and jazz and is home to the notorious Festibelly Folk
Off - the signer/songwriter competition where the discerning crowd will cast
their vote and crown one lucky contestant Folk King/Queen, winning
themselves an opening slot on the main stage for 2012.
Autumn Shift
Following up on their debut Festibelly appearance last year, Autumn Shift
will be setting up to provide all manner of musical delights as well as
their cosy café, live poetry, painting and massages should you be wanting to
unwind after a hard day's party.
Amazing Radio
Broadcasting live from the Festibelly site, the Amazing Radio team will be
providing as-it-happens coverage of the festival, live sessions and

Gottwood - Jedi Knight Spotted!
Gottwood co-founder Tom Carpenter: “We caught the Jedi on our camera phone while out for a walk around the site yesterday evening. We only just got a quick shot before he disappeared off into the woods.”
Gottwood announced through their newsletter last week they will be opening the choice of fancy dress theme to festival goers, continuing their “Twig Society” initiative.
This year’s theme will be picked through Gottwood’s official Facebook page facebook.com/gottwood. The options being offered are 1. Tribes, 2. Sci-Fi, 3. Something beginning with ‘G’, 4. Hats & Hair, 5. Animation.
“We couldn’t decide on a fancy dress theme so we decided to throw it open to the Gottwood faithful to choose. We welcome people of all religions at Gottwood – including Jediism - so if the mysterious Jedi would like to come out and put his case forward for the Sci-Fi theme then we’d be quite happy to hear from him.”
The local area has had a long standing relationship with the Star Wars inspired religion. The Church of Jediism was established in 2007 by Holyhead-based Daniel Jones. With over eight Chapters worldwide and a further 12 planning to open in 2011, the Church of Jediism now has over 16,000 official members.
Green Man Festival 2011 - More brillant acts for the summer shindig
There is no harmony like brotherly harmony, and few do it better than North Carolina’s incredible Avett Brothers.
Discovered by the legendary Rick Rubin, siblings Scott and Seth Avett will keep the Green Man family vibe going in the beautiful Brecon Beacons this August.
Major label debut I and Love and You, produced by Rubin, is packed with raw emotion and naked honesty and finds the brothers poised to breakthrough to the wider audience their songwriting deserves.
The unbridled energy of their self-styled “punkgrass” live show is a must-see - expect raw emotion, some stomping singalongs and the odd snapped banjo string!
Destroyer – aka multi-talented master craftsman and arranger extraordinaire Dan Bejar - headlines the Far Out Tent at Green Man on Saturday.
The Canadian’s ninth album Kaputt is an opulent, lyrical, game-changing masterpiece – elaborate, funny and funky early ‘80s pop songs brought to life by an eight-piece touring band. With a flurry of five star reviews and comparisons to Roxy Music and David Bowie, this astonishing record has rightly been hailed as “a retro dance soundtrack for disco fans”.
You can download the totally ace taster Chinatown for free by clicking here: http://www.scjag.com/mp3/do/chinatown.mp3
Josh T. Pearson’s acclaimed solo debut Last Of The Country Gentlemen is quite possibly the bravest album you’ll hear in 2011.
A collection of seven songs drawn from the lessons of what he describes as “a rough year”, this is personal, powerful, painful, music to melt the heart of the most hardened cynic. If you managed to catch Josh’s spellbinding appearance on Later With Jools Holland last month, you will be licking your lips in anticipation…
Alessi’s Ark is the stage name of West Londoner Alessi Laurent-Marke, whose 2009 debut was produced by Bright Eyes member Mike Mogis in Conor Oberst’s own studio. Now the prodigious 20-year-old is back with the follow-up Time Travel, released last week on the ever-excellent Bella Union.
Matthew And The Atlas have played in some of the UK’s most iconic venues thanks to a support slot last year with Mumford and Sons – not least the Green Man Boat party! Led by gravel-voiced singer Matt Hegarty, the band are now emerging in their own right as one of the brightest stars on the UK folk scene.
Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog - brothers Iwan, Aled and Dafydd Hughes – continue the family theme. Formed in 2006 between the predominantly Welsh-speaking villages of Botwnnog and Llaniestyn in the Lynn Peninsula, the band’s beautiful, rootsy, country-tinged sound is quickly attracting an ever-growing following.
You can discover Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog and scores of other amazing, upcoming new acts lovingly hand-picked by Green Man himself in the Brecon Beacons from August 19th to 21st.
And if you’re lucky, we might even have some more exciting news on the welcome return of one of Green Man’s very good friends up our sleeves for a rainy day…
Don't miss out on tickets to Green Man 2011.

The Festival Site:
The Green Man Festival site is situated in the Brecon Beacons, crossed by the River Usk and enveloped by rolling countryside and breathtaking mountains and hills. It is, in a word, idyllic. We encourage everyone to explore this wonderful site, and make the most of the surroundings. Wide open spaces contrast with intimate moments. Natural beauty blends with community spirit. Camping is limited to one week of the year - Green Man festival. It's a unique opportunity to camp in surroundings unlikely to be found at a commercial campsite.
The Main Stage is located in a natural grassy amphitheatre. Sprawl out on lush green slopes while watching world-class artists perform against the mystical backdrop of Sugar Loaf Mountain. The formal gardens are used for Einstein’s Garden where art installations, stalls and entertainment are positioned between rose arbours and flowerbeds.
The Courtyard Bar is situated in a Gothic Victorian Stables (keep your eyes peeled for the bats at night) and makes for an ideal halfway meet-up point for the festival. From the Stables you can follow an avenue of ancient trees decorated with garland lights where stalls sell delicious global food and quality crafts. From the avenue, you can enter the walled garden where the Green Man Pub hums until the wee hours. The Green Man Pub is an intimate space where you can drink a superb selection of ales, beers, cider and cocktails while relaxing at sturdy wooden tables and chairs as glorious music wafts across from the Pub Stage. After the avenue of trees, the space opens up to the Science and Literature tents. Near here is the bonfire area, a focal point for late-night jamming from dusk till dawn. The Far Out big top is also nearby, and when the sun goes down the Far Out After Dark keeps the fun alive long past the witching hour, fuelled by the nearby End Up Bar which is open very, very late indeed.
And once you’ve got your bearings, why not pay a visit the all-seeing, all-knowing Green Man himself? He might just make you wish come true…

Just So Festival News :: Books, bears and a curious world.
An ever so curious world...
The very first time that we set foot in Barnswood, we knew that it was a magical spot. Like most woodlands, there is a sense of expectation that something amazing could be hiding just behind that tree, just around the next corner. I think children feel that even more, and we think that when they visit Barnswood this August their every expectation should be met. We’ve always dreamt that when families walk into the festival, they shrug off their everyday lives, and suspend their disbelief in the magical, nonsensical and dreamlike.
That is why we are so thrilled that this year, as well as all the acts, workshops and activities, the festival will be full of moments and places of wonder and curiosity created by the marvellous Lord Whitney, who will be art directing the site. We struck lucky last year, when our world collided with theirs. You might have been transformed as part of their Curious Circus Sideshow in the Roll up, roll up glade in 2010.
The Reader Organisation is excited to be bringing Our Read, their national campaign to encourage reading for pleasure, to the Just So Festival this year! Our Read launched on World Book Day, with the distribution of 50,000 free copies of a fantastic new book written especially for The Reader by award-winning author, Frank Cottrell Boyce. The Unforgotten Coat tells the story of two Mongolian brothers who arrive at a school in Bootle, and the stories and experiences they share with their new friend and guide, Julie. The book is filled with warmth and humour, and has enjoyed a tremendous reception from people of all ages.
Our Read will be joining the Just So Festival to hold read aloud sessions of The Unforgotten Coat in a Mongolian yurt! Come along and enjoy this wonderful story, and even have a go at reading aloud to the rest of the group! They want to share this story with as many people as possible, and get as many young people as possible reading for pleasure, so there’ll be plenty of free copies for you to take home and share. Once you’ve enjoyed it, pass it on to people that you know – at home, at work, at school, overseas… or even people that you don’t – on the train, the bus, in a shop… and let’s make Our Read the biggest shared read in the world!
If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise, because BEAR will be there. Here is a messages from them… "We’re BEAR. We make delicious natural nibbles from 100% fruits and wholegrains with absolutely no added nonsense. Grrr! We’re excited to announce we’re going to be at the Just So festival this summer to keep all the grrrowling tummies happy and take the little humans on a BEAR fact hunt through the woods. BEAR will be there in the furry flesh and if you are feeling brave you come for a BEAR hug.

Nozstock: The Hidden Valley
Amid the brushes of Herefordshire’s countryside lies Nozstock: The Hidden Valley. Founded by local residents during the hazy, optimistic and halcyon days at the turn of the millennium, it’s a homegrown event built from a curious amalgamation of performance, art, electronic supersounds and good old-fashioned guitar-strumming and drum-bashing. Now an established, leading family event in its 13th year, Nozstock is a sonic escape boasting eight main stages of entertainment with surprising sights and intimate, secluded areas of theatre and discovery to be unearthed.
When its visitors down tools and hand themselves over to the laid back atmosphere of the event for three pleasure-filled days, there’s a small world of frivolity to find, all scrupulously programmed by the festival’s founders, the Nosworthy family and their eclectically-informed friends.
The festival’s ethos is about bringing play to everyone, in whatever form it can. Nozstock believes in the value of not only entertaining, but in participation and contribution. Above all, Nozstock: The Hidden Valley is a blissful family festival that caters to all ages with activities that little ones can enjoy as well as families en bloc, keeping in the spirit of those early days.
This year’s theme: ‘Twisted Carnival’.

"We believe Off The Tracks is now among the best-value and most-enjoyable festivals you can find, and the people who come back time after time seem to agree with us."

Festivals For All says: "The twice yearly Off The Tracks Festivals are truly hidden jewels in the festival crown; a magical combination of first class facilities, organisation, intelligent music policy, a unique farm environment, great artists, and brilliant, brilliant festival goers".
"If ever a festival typified all that is good and precious about the small independent festival then Off the Tracks is surely it. No matter what your musical tastes or festival preferences, there should always be a place reserved for events like Off The Tracks in anyone's festival calendar."
eFestivals says: Can going to a festival change your life? In the case of OTT. the answer is if you want it to, then yes.The atmosphere here can be electric. Everything from throbbing sound systems to intimate acoustic performances, impromptu sessions and musicians jamming together, the music on offer here is chosen with great care. There will always be someone playing over the course of the weekend that will astound and delight you.
Peatbog Faeries
Based on the Isle of Skye, the band have become one of Scotlands best known names in contemporary folk music. They have twice won "Live Act of the Year" at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards and have taken their own individual brand of Scottish tunes to audiences around the world, from European Festivals, to Asia, Africa, America, Canada and Australia.
The Dhol Foundation
The Dhol Foundation set out to explore the capabilities and diverse range of music from various cultures around the world. This openness to other cultures sets the group apart from other dhol groups. This is, the unique sound of the Dhol Foundation and, the reason why the dhol has been exposed to cultures and countries where it has never been heard before TDF style! Rock, pop and electronic, drum and bass, classical elements its all in there.
Saint Jude
Raw, powerful and fast-rising British rock outfit whose debut album Diary Of A Soul Fiend calls to mind Janis Joplin fronting the Black Crowes. Off The Tracks are delighted to welcome Saint Jude after what will be a busy summer of high-profile festival shows for them.
The Selecter
The Selecter were stars of the iconic 2 Tone movement in the late 1970s with hits like Three Minute Hero, On My Radio, James Bond and Missing Words. Back on the road in 2011, The Selecter???s creator, writer and kingpin Neol Davies spearheads a showstopping 10-piece band. (Please note: this is the original Selecter, not the touring version of The Selecter featuring Pauline Black)
Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick
Guitarist and singer Martin Carthy and virtuoso violin player Dave Swarbrick first became heroes of the British folk scene when they worked as an acoustic duo back in the 1960s, before Swarbrick went off to join the premium lineup of Fairport Convention. They were reunited in the early 90s, but Swarbrick then became so ill that the Daily Telegraph published his obituary. Thankfully that was premature as hell prove by teaming up once again with his old sparring partner.
Lancashire Hotpots
Folk music with a comedic twist from Lancashire (of course), the Hotpots bring you tales of chips for tea, ebay and turning emo. Their latest album Achtung Gravy is sleeved in a brilliant pastiche of the U2 album of (almost) the same name.

About One Love concert (1978):
The One Love Peace Concert was a large concert held on April 22nd, 1978, at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. This concert was held during a political civil war in Jamaica between opposing parties; Jamaican Labour Party and the People’s National Party. The concert came to its peak during Bob Marley & The Wailers’ performance of “Jammin”, when Marley joined the hands of political rivals, Michael Manley (PNP) and Edward Seaga (JLP).
Bob Marley said the following as he called the two politicians onstage and held their hands above his head:
“His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie, I run lightning, leading the people of the slaves to shake hands. . . To show the people that you love them right, to show the people that you gonna unite, show the people that you're over bright, show the people that everything is all right. Watch, watch, watch, what you're doing, because. . I'm not so good at talking but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to say, could we have, could we have, up here onstage here the presence of Mr. Michael Manley and Mr. Edward Seaga. I just want to shake hands and show the people that we're gonna unite . . . we're gonna unite . . . we've got to unite . . . The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead. The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead.”

Rhythm Festival
Many more acts added, including Macavity's Cat, Dogan Mehmet & The Deerhunters and Rainy Boy Sleep.
Rhythm Festival 2011 has announced its Friday night headlining team. Punk legends BUZZCOCKS are joined by influential Brit-Rock three-piece DODGY, and one of the last surviving Chicago Blues legends, EDDIE C CAMPBELL, who flies in especially for this exclusive UK appearance.
Other acts added to the 6th Rhythm Festival line-up include mad-cap festival favourites, Macavities Cat (Sunday), the twisted Turkish-folk-rock of Dogan Mehmet & The Deerhunters (Sunday), highly-touted Derry singer/songwriter Rainy Boy Sleep (Sunday), and Blues diva Debbi Giles and her full Midnight Train band (Saturday).
They join the previously announced acts, incluidng Toots & The Maytals, Imelda May, Nick Lowe, Jack Bruce, Steve Cropper & The Animals, Terry Reid, The Blockheads, Oysterband, Burns Unit, Mud Morganfield, Sandi Thom, 9 Below Zero and Curved Air.
More acts are set to be announced for the four music stages, including the complete comedy line-up.
BUZZCOCKS
Buzzcocks were a huge influence on the Manchester music scene, on the Punk Rock movement and on the British music scene generally. They came together at Bolton Institute in 1975 and their first recordings, including the four-song EP Spiral Scratch (widely credited as Britain's first independent-label punk recording) combined Beatlesque romance and melodicism with a buzzsaw guitar attack and blistering tempos and were the best for a generation. Singles Going Steady (1979) is a phenomenal collection of the band's singles and was described by critic Ned Raggett as a "punk masterpiece". Songs like "Harmony In My Head," "Every Fallen in Love" and "Why Can't I Touch It" are undoubted pop-rock classics.
The name "Buzzcocks" was chosen by Pete Shelley after reading the headline "it's the buzz, cocks!" in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine.
Buzzcocks at Rhythm Festival 2011 will be Pete Shelley, Steve Diggle, Chris Remmington and Danny Farrant.
DODGY
The definitive line up of Nigel Clark, Andy Miller and Mathew Priest is back...
The first time round, Dodgy were only together for seven years but in that time they sold over a million records, released three albums and 12 Top 40 singles, including 3 Top 10s and the Top 5 hit Good Enough, still a staple of the Radio 2 playlist. They sold out the Brixton Academy for three nights in a row and were awarded an unprecedented 90-minute Saturday evening slot on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival in 1997 just before Radiohead. Not bad, considering that they also partied harder than an Ewok.
Since they got back together in 2008, they played an extremely successful set of reunion shows culminating in an overwhelming finale at the Glastonbury Festival - their second home in the 1990s - where an exuberant Will Young was spotted 'dancing like he was on something' at the side of the stage. Bless.
Besides the hits, Staying Out For The Summer, So Let Me Go Far, Making The Most Of, If You're Thinkin Of Me, Melodies Haunt You, In A Room, and the epic Grassman - (I mean, I could go on) Dodgy have started introducing potential new hits into the set. As anyone who has seen Dodgy so far this year will tell you, the Mighty Dodgy Vibe is back and stronger than ever.
EDDIE C CAMPBELL
How's this for blues pedigree? Born to sharecroppers in Duncan, Mississippi, in 1939, Eddie C Campbell was raised on Chicago's West Side, alongside the likes of Magic Sam, Willie Dixon, Little Walter and others.
Shortly after moving to the "Windy City", his mother brought him to the 1125 Club on Madison Avenue to meet legendary bluesman Muddy Waters, who told Eddie he could sit in with the band if he learned how to play. Four years later and with guitar in hand, Eddie returned to the club, played a scorching rendition of "Still a Fool" and earned a spot on the bandstand. He was twelve years old. The rest, you could say, is blues history: his tee nyears on the nightclub circuit honing his chops with such top-players as Luther Allison, Magic Sam, Big Monroe, Willie Buckner and Pee Wee Madison.
Eddie soon became one of the West Side's most popular and flamboyant musicians, riding around on a purple motorcycle, sporting a red Fender Jazzmaster guitar, learning karate and - all music aside - wining sixteen knockouts as an amateur boxer. Campbell toured with Otis Rush and Mighty Joe Young before becoming band director for Jimmy Reed. He visited Europe in 1979 with the Amercian Blues Legends Tour.
Over the years, Eddie C Campbell had established a playing style all his own: jaunty, irresistibly danceable rhythms overlaid with lithe guitar lines, often placed so tightly in the pocket of the beat that his lead guitar almost double as a rhythm instrument. We welcome this Blues legend to Rhythm Festival 2011.

Rhythm Festival: The Background
Rhythm Festival was founded in 2006 by veteran music promoter and writer, Jim Driver, and was held until 2010 at Twinwood Arena, Clapham, Bedfordshire. Rhythm Festival aims to be different from other outdoor music festivals, by being smaller, friendlier and geared towards the customer. Says Jim Driver: "Rhythm is a family festival for people who like festivals but who don't like rip-off burgers, terrible food and indifferent booze."
Over the first five years Rhythm Festival headliners have included Jerry Lee Lewis, Alabama 3, Donovan, Roy Harper, Seth Lakeman, The Levellers, The Proclaimers, John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Jefferson Starship, Joe Bonamassa, Big Star and (not!) Ike Turner (who was booked twice but who never actually showed up!)

Take That to play in a field in East Yorkshire…. Well almost..
Take That fans who missed out during the recent stampede for ticket sales to the 2011 tour still have the opportunity to hear their songs in 2011. This opportunity also comes to a field near Beverley in East Yorkshire.
‘Back for Good’, the countries leading Take That Tribute act will be headlining the Saturday evening slot of the 2011 Tribfest festival and performing a range of classics to thousands of local festival goers at the Beverley Polo Club in Tickton. (HU17 9RX)
This years festival is held between August 19th – 21st and festival will be launched with a performance by 15 year old Liam Mcnally, a "Britain’s got Talent" finalist 2010
Already more tickets have been sold for this year’s event than at the same time last year for the ever improving and ever growing event. The first event attracted 700 people to Driffield in 2007 and this years festival should reach 5000 music fans for a three day event of top quality tribute artists, comedy and dance events. This years festival also sees the launch of the Laughing Cow Comedy Marquee where twenty top up and coming comedians from across Britain will be performing over the weekend in a comedy event coordinated by John Marshall of the Buzz Comedy Club a man who helped launch the careers of stars such as Peter Kay and Alan Carr.
Ed Faulkner (Festival Director) said “each year more festival goers are attending which allows us to make Tribfest bigger and better each year with lots more to do within the main arena. The main stage although a key element of the event is not the only attraction with folk marquee, unsigned marquee, Interactive Kidszone, VIP marquee, Dance tent, Silent Disco, Karaoke marquee, comedy stage food and retail stands with over 80 bands performing this year and lots of added attractions for the Kids it promises to be the best yet.”
The event has attracted increasing audiences and many plaudits over the past four years and the Take That Tribute act is just one of the many quality acts who should make Tribfest 2011 the best one yet. There will be over forty tribute acts performing over the weekend across the main stage and VIP marquee including a range of new performers and festival favourites such as Kazabian and Badness.
Over the weekend there will be tribute performers to a wide range of stars such as Elton John, The Prodigy, Kings of Leon, Madness, Black Eyed Peas, Guns N Roses, Green Day, U2. Arctic Monkeys, ABBA and the Clash.

Tribes have already amassed a large cult following after a series of euphoric live show and their twisted gorgeous pop songs look set to take Lo-fi all the way to popstardom
Three piece band Encore’s unpredictable pop is steeped in sharp song writing, superlative vocals and brilliant, genre bending compositions while The Knocks are NYC’s hottest pop production unit and their effervescent bright and breezy pop is sure to be a highlight of the day. Pegasus Bridge, fresh from plasticising in the school caretakers hut now perform for the teen masses at Underage.
"We are delighted to be in our 5th year and wanted to celebrate this by opening it up to a younger audience, after gathering feedback from past festival goers whose younger friends have been disappointed they can’t get tickets, we welcome 13 year olds for the first time at this year’s Underage
Festival. It’s a great opportunity for those that love music to come and experience their first ever festival" Tom Baker - Eat Your Own Ears

Hello,
Soul Legends and Gypsy Punks Gather For WOMAD
Yes the second artist announcement is upon us. The musicians have been let loose and the results are sparkling.
First off, Booker T Jones - soul music godfather, leader of the MG's and organist supreme. This is the man who gave the world Green Onions, Time Is Tight and, most famously (to cricket fans at least), the irresistible sunshine grooves of Test Match Special theme tune Soul Limbo.
Next up, New York's Gogol Bordello. Always an extraordinary spectacle, these gypsy punk pirates will be making their Charlton Park debuts, filling the air with the weekend's most raucous, anarchic sounds.
A more stately, but no less thrilling, affair is AfroCubism, the wonderful Malian/Cuban crossover project that's had critics and punters purring with approval. This all-star, cross-continental meeting of minds will be a red-letter moment for many at this year's Charlton Park.
While we're talking West Africa, an appearance from Ebo Taylor is sure to also be among the highlights. This Ghanaian bandleader, an old student pal of the mighty Fela Kuti, is one of the forgotten men of Afrobeat and highlife. Expect that wrong to be righted come July.
Being the festival that travels furthest in pursuit of music excellence - one that leaves no stone unturned, no CD unheard - WOMAD is always happy to handle the introductions to music you've yet to encounter. So set your audio sat-navs in the direction of these future favourites: Samuel Yirga, a young Ethiopian pianist with an extraordinary improvisational flair; singer Nathalie Natiembe whose intense, musically impure sound mirrors the ethnic complexity of her native Reunion Island; the rhythmic elasticity of Indian percussive force Dhols of Jaipur; and the spellbinding lute-and-flute combination of Japanese duo Shunsuke Kimurax Etsuro Ono.
This summer sees a new collaboration between WOMAD and the French Music Office, the organisation that acts as a conduit between the UK and French music industries. WOMAD, in association with the FMO, has programmed several French-produced performers for the festival. Look out for the FMO logo on the artist's WOMAD webpage to see which artists they are.
There are more, we just can't fit them all in to this newsletter... To read about the other equally wonderful musicians coming to WOMAD Charlton Park head this way.
Roots Architecture Workshops have returned for 2011 and will be building their zany collection of intriguing stages. Find out more or buy tickets for this very unique experience here. Now have you thought about your accommodation? Well, Park and Camp tickets have all gone and Campervan tickets and WOMAD Camping options are well on their way to selling out too. Buy now to avoid any risk of disappointment.
WOMAD Band Competition - Calling all unsigned bands and musicians... Winners to perform at WOMAD Charlton Park 2011.

The winner, chosen entirely by the WOMAD public, will be performing on a stage at WOMAD Charlton Park 2011! The competition will take place on the Official WOMAD Charlton Park Facebook pages.
